Nominations for the election of Trustees for Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua Settlement Trust (the Trust) closed at midday on Friday 11 October 2024. View the 2024 Confirmed Candidates here.

As more than the required number of nominations were received for the remaining hapū karanga positions, elections will be required to determine those Trustees and will be conducted by postal and online voting. Adult members of the Trust will be sent a voter pack for their hapū electorate, together with information about the candidates for that election from Friday 25 October 2024 and voting will close at midday on Tuesday 26 November 2024. Any adult member registered for one of the six hapū karanga requiring an election who does not receive a voter pack or requires a replacement should ring the election helpline on 0800 666 035. Please note that members are now unable to change their hapū karanga during the election period.

Nominations

Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua Settlement Trust (the Trust) is the Post Settlement Governance Entity established to implement, manage, protect and govern the Treaty settlement of Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua.

The Trust is administered by 12 trustees who are elected on a Hapū Karanga basis, all of whom must retire by rotation later this year. The Trust now calls for nominations to fill those vacancies with the successful candidates to hold office for a three-year term. The retiring trustees can stand for re-election if they choose.

Nominations must be made on an official nomination form and close at midday on Friday 11 October 2024. Candidates must be adult registered members of the Trust and be recorded on the Trust register for the Hapū Karanga they are seeking election for. Candidates must also meet the eligibility
criteria set out in rule 3.1 of the Second Schedule of the Trust Deed which are outlined on the nomination form.

Rule 6.2 of the Second Schedule of the Trust Deed sets out the following characteristics of candidates:

  1. An appropriate level of knowledge, skill, expertise and business capabilities to assist in giving effect to the purposes of the Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua Settlement Trust; and
  2. In their own right, a reasonable level of competence in and knowledge of, the relevant accounting standards and best practice governance models.

Invitation to Register
The Trust also takes this opportunity to invite all adults of Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa Tāmaki-nui-a-Rua descent who have not already registered, to do so by completing a registration form and returning it on or before midday Friday 11 October 2024.
