In former times the hapu boundaries were known as the Castlepoint Purchase Block. It extended from the north at Akitio/Cape Turnagain along the coast line down towards Whareama there by following the river inland to Taueru, from Taueru inland through the mountain range, Maungaraki to the Puketoi Range and from Pongaroa back out to Akitio/Cape Turnagain.
